Tooth Whitening Sensitive Wear Schedule
Everybody has some sensitivity even if only mild. So you must determine the level of sensitivity that you experience. If you have MODERATE TO SEVERE sensitivity then you will have to DESENTITIZE your teeth before you can effectively begin whitening your teeth. Please read SENSITIVITY-ISSUES to learn about Desentitizing your teeth.
The wear schedule below will allow you to whiten to your goal. It will take a little longer but the results are very good and the best thing is you will have desentitized your teeth improving your comfort level.
1. If sensitivity develops when you begin your whitening -- WAIT 2 full days (48 hours) then begin whitening 1 hour only for three days. When you put the gel in the trays please note the time because in this case you will want to take your trays out of your mouth and replenish the gel into the trays every 15 minutes. This is different than the regular wear schediule.where you change the gel every 30 minutes. The reason you want to replemish the gel in your tray every 15 minutes is to incorporate into the teeth the maximum amount of Desentitizers that are in the gel mixture. The more you wear the trays the less sensitive your teeth will become. After three days go to Step 2.
2. If you have been able to wear your trays for three straight days without sensitivity then you can increase your wear time now to 1/1/2 hours (all at one time) for 2 days. Now you only have to replenish your trays every 30 minutes. Remember you have to remove your trays and put new gel in the trays every 30 Minutes. If you haven't experienced any sensitivity then you are on the right track. Now go to step 3.
3. Now you can go to 2 sessions per day, 1 hour each session. . This is a big step even though it is only an extra 30 minutes of wear per day. Remember you will have to replenish your trays with new gel every 30 minutes. This wear schedule is excellent for people with sensitive teeth. They can stay at this point and continue to whiten until they reach their goal or if they do not experience any sensitivity above MILD then they can proceed to step 4.
4. This is a NORMAL WHITENING PROTOCOL. Wear your trays for 2 sessions per day each session should be 1 1/2 hours. Be sure to change the Gel in the trays every 30 minutes. This extra hour of wear is the TURBOCHARGER portion of the whitening. You must be free of sensitivity except mild when you are finished with a wear session. If you are still having above mild sensitivity then stick with the two 1 hour sessions.
If you continue to experience above mild sensitivity then you can wear your trays with Fluiride Gel that you can get from your dentist or you can order the desentitizing kit that will significantly help reduce sensitivity by remineralizing the teeth with not only Fluoride but also Ti-Calcium Phosphate.
